Assa'ada International Research Journal (AIRJ) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic publishing. This review policy sets out the principles and procedures that govern the peer review process for every manuscript submitted to AIRJ.
Peer review lies at the heart of scholarly publishing. It protects readers by ensuring published research has been examined by experts in the field, and it helps authors strengthen their work through constructive, informed feedback. Our double-blind review model, described below, is designed to keep this process fair, transparent and useful for everyone involved.
Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and, through editorial communications with the author, helps the author improve the paper. Peer review is an essential component of formal scholarly communication and lies at the heart of the scientific method. AIRJ shares the view that all scholars who wish to contribute to publications also have an obligation to do a fair share of reviewing.
Any invited reviewer who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript, or knows that prompt review will be impossible, should notify the editor and excuse themselves from the review process.
Any manuscript received for review must be treated as a confidential document. It must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorised by the editor.
Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly and support them with reasoned arguments.
Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation or argument has been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also draw the editor's attention to any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in a reviewer's own research without the express written consent of the author. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative or other relationships with any of the authors, companies or institutions connected to the paper.
AIRJ follows a double-blind review model. Reviewer identities are never disclosed to authors, and reviewers are expected not to attempt to identify or contact authors directly during the review process.
Reviewers are expected to complete their assessment within the timeframe communicated at the time of invitation, typically within two to three weeks. Extensions may be requested in advance if genuinely needed. Unresponsive reviewers may be reassigned to keep the process on schedule.
Authors who disagree with a review decision may submit a formal appeal to the editorial board along with a point-by-point response to the reviewers' comments. The editorial board will re-evaluate the manuscript, which may involve an additional independent reviewer, and communicate a final decision.
Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive and timely feedback on the manuscript. They should maintain confidentiality and not disclose any information about the manuscript or the review process. Reviewers should declare any potential conflicts of interest that may affect their impartiality.
Every manuscript submitted to AIRJ passes through the following stages:
Upon submission, all manuscripts undergo initial screening by the editorial team to check that they meet the journal's scope, formatting guidelines and originality requirements (including a Turnitin plagiarism check with a 10% limit).
Submissions that pass initial screening are sent for peer review. AIRJ follows a double-blind peer review process, where the identities of both the authors and the reviewers are concealed from each other.
Reviewers are selected based on their expertise in the relevant field. They evaluate the manuscript on originality, significance, methodology and clarity, and provide constructive feedback for the author.
Based on the reviewers' comments, the editorial team decides whether to accept the manuscript, request revisions, or reject it. Authors are notified of the decision along with the reviewers' comments.
